A Compiled Wish List
I did some research yesterday, checking out the wish lists at a ton of homeless shelters. Basically, they are all asking for the same things. So, I’ve combined the most important ones…ones that go along with the theme of this project…
New blankets
New or gently used stuffed animals
action figures
Diapers
Pull Ups
Underwear
Socks
Pajamas
Slippers
towels
toothbrush/toothpast
hair bows/bands/clips
educational age appropriate toys
books
coloring books
crayons
and, for the older kids…
calculators
pens/pencils
spiral notebooks
along with some of the other things mentioned.
also, backpacks and totes, to fill
anything that you would think these kids could use, love and take with them wherever they move around to!
My husband is going to talk to the high school art teacher, from where he teaches. He is going to see if she will have her students created totes for this project.
I think dollar stores are a great place!!! Everything that is needed can be bought there!!!
I’m going to start looking into shelters that don’t get a lot of help. I’m in Michigan, we have a bunch. But…if any of you know of ones in your areas, please let me know!!
I’m open to any ideas and suggestions. Let’s make this a blogcommunity effort, OK!?
If anyone knows how to make a badge that will link to this blog…I would appreciate it!! I have no clue how to do it!
xoxo

This is a great idea. My Dad lives in Michigan, and he tells me things are rough there, as they probably are everywhere, but Detroit seems especially hard hit. I’m not sure about the badge — Schmutzie’s Milk Money does this stuff all the time. I know how to upload a picture — but I’m not really sure how to get it to link back here, other than to make the first line of the tag a href tag, and then following that the src tag… not sure!

I am going to collect a ton of stuff for you.
Please sign me up to help in anyway. I love social activism.
You are the best!

I’ll be putting some things together. There is another great place around here…but it’s for pregnant women. It’s a place women can go to get free ultrasounds, preggo tests, and even stay in this home (as long as they promise to get a job to at least SHOW they are trying…and they help them find jobs)…can that count too?

I’ll gather stuff. You just let me know where to send it.

Oh, and as Rocket Scientist cares about such things, will we be getting tax receipts?

backpacks are a great idea for the kids…they usually carry their belongings around in a garbage sack. do you want us to do this locally….like I said before, my girl scout troop does this type of community service on a regular basis…I will do whatever you want!! I love this idea!!

Are you going to be taking these things in form of donation? Is that how it works? I’d love to help!
